It’s been years since we wrapped production on my Travel Channel series “Big City, Little Budget”, so it was both surprising and satisfying to know that my little labor of love is still getting recognition in these travel streets. We shot 18 episodes in 4 different states and the experience helped me grow infinitely as a host and on-air personality.🥰

Swipe to give the entire article a read— the debate surrounding what makes great travel programming and why making celebrities travel hosts is a bad idea is truly an interesting one. 

With all that said, my personal pet peeve is the lack of inclusion in the travel industry as a whole. I’ve spent SO much of my career decrying the lack of depth and diversity in the travel and tourism space at large. “Famous” or not, travel hosts, as well as the people featured in travel media like brochures, commercials, etc, are overwhelmingly white, Western, male, and able-bodied… and quite frankly I’m over it. Been over it!🤢 

Don’t get me wrong— while the landscape is changing for women and POC in particular, we still don’t get the same level of opportunities, the same compensation, or the same level of support and advocacy from our networks (especially when it comes to getting our shows publicity and renewing them for additional seasons). 

Anyway, I could blather on and on about this topic… do any of y’all remember my Travel Channel days?
