📚 Risoprinting Zines! 🍝

While best described as a ‘digital screen printing’, Riso Printing has the convenience of an office copier. When you scan or upload an image to the machine, it first makes a paper stencil and wraps this around the ink drum - these are called masters. Paper is placed on the feeder and passed through one or two of the ink drums. The machine creates a ‘digital’ stamp of individual colours and together they create a colourful image. Known for its vivid colours and its specific textures, Riso machines provide an affordable and accessible method for reproducing work at large quantities, like posters, prints and zines. 📍Send us a DM or visit our website to book a riso printing session!

Speaking of zines, we are featuring artist member zinemaker Sonali Menezes’ @sonaleeeeeee reprint of their "Depression Cooking" zine! The first edition of the zine is printed and distributed with generous support from PS Guelph @psguelph, ArtsEverywhere.ca @artseverywhere.ca , and Hamilton Artist Inc @hamiltonartistsinc ; the second edition is printed and distributed with the generous support from the Disability Justice Network of Ontario @djnontario .

"Depression Cooking" is a zine-baby and is addressed as a love letter to her depressed kin. It is part easy recipe book, part manifesto for surviving under the crushing weight of capitalism as a Mad person. These recipes have been compiled over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic from three sources. First, through cooking tips and tricks Sonali picked up over the last 10 years. Second, through conversation with friends and family, and third, through social media comments and messages from strangers on the internet. It is a way to care for ourselves and one another despite being isolated and apart during COVID-19.
