Read below to learn more about Steacy's residency exchange at @marthastreetstudio and their projects using materials from convenience stores! 

Every year, Centre[3] sends one artist member to Martha Street Studio for a two-week residency. In return, we welcome an artist member from Martha Street Studio for a two-week residency at Centre[3]. 

"During my residency, I worked on Digital printmaking with Sean MacLachlan @printmongerpress who was just really smart, knew what I wanted, and provided quick and careful direction; and analog printing with Peter @damagedlandscapes who was just a brilliant, nuanced and finicky printer. I was interested in the idea of exchange, exchange of ideas, objects, and geographies, and that was made much easier from both the pragmatic and theoretical help here."
 
"The pitch for the original show (two years and two delays ago) was about “variety walls” in convenience stores. I bought 67.00 worth of goods from the nearest convenience store that had a variety wall (Full House). I took those objects and then figured out how to depict them in a variety of mediums. This included scanning each object and its packaging, then screen-printing both individual objects on newsprint, and collaged images of ten objects on rag paper. I then printed a modified image of peg boards on a much larger sheet of rag paper, and drew in each of the holes of the image. When the work is shown entirely, four images are of convenience stores and variety walls, two in Winnipeg and two in Hamilton."
