2nd place with vmodance at vibedancecomp has been so surreal, but past the results of the competition this set is one of the most important ones I have ever been a part of/put together. This set is meant to wake people up to the things going on in this world around us & to impact them to do something. 

This Opener’s concept was meant to portray the craziness & isolation that one feels when they see the people or community around them ignoring the issues going on in the world that mean a lot to them. The craziness you feel when you see politicians & world leaders saying things that make you scared or fearful for those around you, but yet no one is challenging it. The isolation you feel when you see people that look like you being killed on video yet those who you care about ignoring it. The isolation I felt in 2020 while seeing leaders & peers who felt Black Lives Matter was too political or didn’t concern them actively profiting off of black culture by teaching hip hop, but staying silent about George Floyd & Breonna Taylor. The craziness I feel when I hear that my peers in the dance community are “tired” of me talking about Palestine & wish I would move on. You wanted me to “get back to the dancing”, & I did, but not without you hearing what I have to say first. I want to show the community that you can use your platform & voice while still being a high level dancer, YOU CAN DO BOTH. I send this message to those who have challenged my activism while simultaneously not using their privilege to do anything of substance or help others in need. You can talk all you want in your group chats, I’m going to silently use my platform & voice on one of the biggest stages in our dance community. I will not be guilted into silence because you are insecure about your own. None of you bitches go crazy, and that’s a fact. 

I’ve been wanting to get this off my chest for a while, & I am grateful to have had the chance to do at on such a prestigious stage. My heart is with vmodance always. More to come about this journey to Vibe but for now, here one of my pieces from Vibe 2024 😈💃🏽
