Scott Gilly discusses how leadership roles within college athletics are evolving, particularly the changing expectations around athletic directors. He explains that while some #universities now have general manager roles focused on individual sports like football or basketball, the athletic director is increasingly viewed as the overall #ceo of the athletics organization.

In the clip, Scott points to examples such as the University of South Florida, which has gone as far as changing the title to CEO of Athletics, marking a shift that had not previously been seen at the university. The change reflects how the scope and responsibility of the role have expanded beyond traditional athletic administration into broader organizational leadership.

Scott notes that as the position continues to evolve, so do the qualifications and competencies required to be effective in the role. The conversation captures how college athletics leadership is moving toward a more enterprise-level mindset, mirroring executive leadership structures seen in other industries as the business of college sports becomes more complex.
