The pitch clock is already making waves in MLB games. Here’s how it is affecting the game ⬇️ Last season, the average MLB game lasted 3 hours and 6 minutes. And we all know that the action-packed Red Sox and Yankee games last well past the 3 hour and 6 minute mark. On a 30 second clock, pitchers have 15 seconds from the time they receive the ball to throw the ball with no base runners and 20 seconds with runners on base. Throughout spring training, games are on average 20 minutes shorter. The new rule has already affected how pitchers and batters act between pitches. Batters must be in the batter’s box with 8 seconds left on the clock. The first batter to have an automatic strike called on them for a violation was Manny Machado. And the Red Sox and Braves ended when Braves’ hitter Cal Conley failed to be in the batter’s box and prepared to receive a pitch with 8 seconds left on the clock. The game was tied 6-6 and the count was full. As a result of the automatic strike, the spring training game ended in a tie. Hopefully, a quicker game with less downtime will result in more exciting games.
