This is what it takes to search deep in the Sonoran Desert.

Mules carrying water across brutal terrain because we are not allowed to use dirt service roads.

Border Patrol drives and hunts people to death.
We walk—mile after mile—searching for the lost but not forgotten.

Their vehicles cut new tracks every day, on-road and off-road, tearing through protected wilderness. Humanitarian requests to drive existing dirt roads are denied.

Cabeza Prieta once tried to prosecute volunteers for leaving water, claiming the land was pristine. Then photos surfaced—abandoned vehicles, military debris—and the case collapsed.

What you won’t find on Cabeza Prieta’s website: the dead.

More than 300 migrants have been found dead in this so-called “refuge.” Many hundreds more have never been recovered. No searches. No accounting. No acknowledgment.
Instead, they criminalize the people willing to walk. To carry water. To search.

This is over 800,000 acres of federally managed land. We respect wild places.

But mothers love their children too.

Service roads are driven to deliver hay and water for Desert Pronghorn. There is zero effort to assist people fleeing violence—or to support humanitarians doing the work. Water-station agreements are allowed to expire, making an already deadly place even deadlier.

The greatest crime isn’t the desert.
It’s the silence.

The desert is weaponized. The policies are written in offices. The enforcement wears badges.

We are the ones left to walk.
To carry the water.
To refuse to look away.
