## Caption

How do you button a double breasted jacket? The easy, usually correct answer is to button the middle buttons. Sure. But the correct answer depends on what kind of jacket you have.

In my old blog post, I went over the history of each of these styles, the different aesthetic effects, and more, with visual examples of each kind.

I'm primarily focused on jackets here, but this all technically applies to overcoats as well. That said, I don't think I've ever seen a 6x1 or low-buttoning overcoat because you want it to cover more of your chest, not less.

Also, if you ever have the misfortune of seeing an 8x3, you button both the 3 and the 2. You leave the 1 open. This is not like a 3–button sb, the lapels wouldn't roll right to the 2.
