In a clear sign of the Academy’s increasingly international makeup, Oscar voters made history by nominating four performances from international films in the acting categories — the most ever. The previous record was three, set both last year and in 1976.

This year, a performance from an international feature was nominated in every one of the four acting categories:

- #RenateReinsve: First lead actress nominated for a Norwegian-language movie
- #IngaIbsdotterLilleaas: First supporting actress nominated for a Norwegian-language film
- #StellanSkarsgård: First person from an international film ever to be nominated for Best Supporting Actor
