Watch the Game Highlights from the LSU Tigers at the Vanderbilt Commodores, 1/10/2026

Tyler Tanner scored 20 points as No. 11 Vanderbilt placed five players in double figures and remained undefeated with an 84–73 win over LSU on Saturday, matching the best start in program history.

Vanderbilt wasted little time taking control. After the game’s only tie at 2, AK Okereke scored on a move in the paint to give the Commodores the lead for good, and Tanner followed with a three-point play to ignite an early run. Vanderbilt’s offense was sharp throughout the first half, shooting 57.6% from the floor and building the lead to as many as 20 points before heading into the locker room up 52–38.

Tyler Nickel played a key role early, finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Duke Miles added steady production on both ends. The Commodores’ ball movement and interior scoring kept LSU from finding any rhythm, especially with the Tigers playing without leading scorer Dedan Thomas Jr. due to a lower-leg injury.

Vanderbilt stumbled briefly to open the second half, making just two of its first 12 shots. LSU capitalized with a 12–1 run, trimming the deficit to 59–52 on a jumper by Max Mackinnon with 12:54 remaining. Mackinnon, who finished with a season-high 27 points, continued to push the Tigers closer, helping LSU get within seven on multiple occasions.

Each time LSU threatened, Vanderbilt responded. Tanner halted the momentum with a jumper and later knocked down two free throws to restore a double-digit cushion. LSU would not get closer than nine again until the final minute, and the Commodores sealed the win at the line.

Nickel, Miles (17 points), Okereke (12 points), and Jalen Washington (11 points) joined Tanner in double figures as Vanderbilt improved to 16–0 overall and 3–0 in SEC play, equaling the 2007–08 team for the best start in the 124-year history of the program.
