The 2026 Oscar nominations are here, and while “The Secret Agent” continues making history and breaking barriers for Brazilian representation, Latine talent was largely ignored at the Academy Awards this year. Wagner Moura was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role category, making history as the first Brazilian to do so, and Benicio del Toro was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for “One Battle After Another.” However, Guillermo del Toro, Oscar Isaac, and Tessa Thompson were snubbed in the Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress in a Supporting Role categories, respectively. 

Despite this, Mexican-American film producer Yvett Merino and Mexican film producer Nidia Santiago were nominated in the Best Animated Feature Film category for “Zootopia 2” and “Little Amélie or the Character of Rain,” respectively, and Chilean production designer Florencia Martin was nominated for Best Production Design for “One Battle After Another.” Additionally, Mexican-American animator and screenwriter Adrian Molina was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film for “Elio,” Costa Rican music editor Felipe Pacheco was nominated for Best Sound for “Sinners,” Brazilian cinematographer Adolpho Veloso was nominated for Best Cinematography for “Train Dreams,” and Colombian photojournalist Juan Arredondo was nominated for Best Documentary Short Film for “Armed Only with a Camera: the Life and Death of Brent Renaud.”
