From yesterday’s lecture: 

-Identity politics- relevant and present 
-Comparing Che Guevara to Frida- as historic and controversial political figures. 
-Rediscovering Frida: the Chicano movement brought forth a resurgence of Frida as a surrealist artist, iconic, historic political figure and all-around bad ass.

As an (American) Tejana-Latina what does she mean to you? 
How do Chicanos and Feminist relate to her? 

She is a; 
A historic influencer ahead of her time on so many fronts; specifically sexuality, politics and self-identity.. during a time when so much was so taboo and in a country of traditionalist. 

Her Art represents SO much: 
-“Girl gang”/Feminism and the rise of powerful women to use their voices and their platforms to empower and gain social equity and justice. 
-Art itself and its interpretation of it, others perspectives are busted wide open 
-Tears and joy, happiness and death 
-Resilience and growth, faith and Love 
- self-reflection, self-love, self-identity

Her protest as a human art exhibit brings so much relevancy to today’s government and social identities! 

In a moment in time when resistance is vital bringing Frida to life and her purpose and stance is important was she a radial communist or was she strength to building true community & legacy? 

“Ella es la Clave”; she is a modern day bridge & connection between Mexicanos and Chicanos. 

Never allow anybody else to label you or predict who you are meant to be… always, and forever be unapologetically yourself, and move forward, no matter who opposes it.
