#TSRPolitics: The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of State announced that the United States has officially completed its withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO).

The agencies said the decision was based on what they described as the WHO’s mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic, failure to make necessary reforms, and lack of independence from political influence by member countries.

Health and Human Services Secretary #RobertFKennedyJr. and Secretary of State #MarcoRubio shared the news in a joint statement.

President #DonaldTrump first announced plans to leave the WHO on Jan. 20, 2025, initially starting the process in July of 2020. Over the past year, the U.S. ended its funding, removed all personnel, and shifted work previously done through the WHO to direct partnerships with other countries and organizations. The U.S. said it will now only coordinate with the WHO in a limited way to finalize the withdrawal process.
