Congrats to Denise Pliego Galan, Sofia Hernandez Limas, Holden Holland Magnuson, and Manuel Gomez Romero, recipients of a Spirit of the Loppet Award for Stewardship!
.
If you skied at Wirth Park this past winter, you probably ran into one these four, who were the pioneers of the new Ski Ambassador program. As Ski Ambassadors, they skied the trails to check conditions, welcomed people to the park, helped skiers learn more about the trails, provided ski instruction and coaching to community groups, and reminded skiers to display their trail passes.
.
Trailhead Manager Ben Bauch says, “I am so proud of this crew, all alums of our Junior Loppet programs. They were willing to set the tone for a new program and the increased responsibility that came with it. Their hard work made it clear how much they care about their trails and our community, and their leadership has set a great foundation for this idea to grow.”
.
Let's hear from them directly:
.
"I enjoyed being a Trail Ambassador because I was able to learn from my mentors and friends, while helping the community and meeting new people along the way."
— Holden Magnuson
.
"I was able to help look after the trails and the park as a Trail Ambassador, which was very exciting since I’ve been participating in Loppet events and programs since I was in Minne-Loppet as an elementary schooler."
— Sofia Limas Hernandez
.
"One of my favorite aspects of my role as a Trail Ambassador was interacting with many different types of people. Seeing the younger ones out being active made me especially happy."
— Denise Pliego Galan
.
"As a Trail Ambassador I enjoyed meeting all of the amazing people, supporting the Loppet Foundation, having a great mentor, trying new things like coaching and event setup, all while being outside enjoying nature."
— Manny Gomez
.
We're so grateful for these four as they step up as leaders in the outdoor community!
.
If you're able, please consider a donation to the Loppet Foundation. You can give online at Loppet.org/give (link in bio). We'll use your donations to support programs like the Minne-Loppet, Junior Loppet, and Ski Ambassadors (and all that fabulous snow making and grooming!).
