There are 3 types of ball in golf, but which is best for you? 🏌️‍♂️ First is the distance ball. This ball has one job — go long. They’re normally a two-piece design with a hard shell to keep spin low off the driver, so your tee shots fly straighter and squeeze out a bit more distance. The bonus? They’re also the cheapest balls you can buy which is perfect if you’re still donating a few to the trees every round. The downside is around the greens — they spin less because the harder cover doesn’t grip the clubface as well. Next is the soft ball. These are also usually two-piece, but with a softer cover. That means they compress more easily, especially if you don’t swing it like Bryson. They still go plenty far, but they spin more around the greens than a pure distance ball. For most weekend golfers? This is the sweet spot. And finally the premium ball. The ones you see on TV. Multiple layers, urethane covers, loads of spin, loads of control. These balls are designed to optimise performance across the board — from distance to spin. They’re elite off the tee, elite into the greens, and elite around them. But here’s the catch: They can cost £4 a ball. So unless your ball striking is pretty consistent, you might just be paying extra to lose nicer golf balls. Bottom line: The best golf ball isn’t the most expensive one — it’s the one that actually fits your game.
