Andy Kaufman never cashed the paychecks he earned for his legendary wrestling feud with Jerry “The King” Lawler in Memphis. After Kaufman’s death in 1984, his family discovered the uncashed checks from the wrestling territory among his personal belongings. 

Kaufman, who was already a successful television star on “Taxi,” viewed his time in professional wrestling as a passion project rather than a job. He refused to accept payment because he enjoyed the experience so much that he didn’t feel it was right to take the money.
