Dave Bautista once had a tattoo dedicated to boxing legend Manny Pacquiao on his left forearm, but he made the decision to cover it up in 2016.

The ink, which originally featured the “Team Pacquiao” meteor logo, was removed after Pacquiao made controversial comments regarding the LGBTQ+ community. The boxer faced backlash for stating that those in same-sex relationships were “worse than animals.”

For Bautista, the decision to remove the tattoo was personal. In a tattoo breakdown video for GQ, the former WWE Champion explained that because his mother is a lesbian, he could no longer support someone who held those views.

“I was part of a team of a person I considered a friend and someone I really looked up to,” Bautista said. “And then, he later came out publicly with some anti-gay statements... It’s a personal issue with me, my mom’s a lesbian. And I just could no longer call him a friend.”

Bautista covered the logo with an image of a woman wearing sugar skull face paint. He said that his favorite tattoo is the one with his 3 dogs.
