Hey I wanted to share with you an update on how I’m doing. Two months ago I was diagnosed with OCD (which I think I have been battling with for about 15 years) and I have taken the first steps towards treating it. I joke with my family that at this point it feels easier to list things I don’t have going on in my head but alas, here we are.

I have been taking sertraline for over 5 weeks, a brief summary of my experience so far;

Weeks 1 - first few days I felt ‘high’ then the drop came.
Weeks 2 & 3 - anxious and OCD is actually worse, felt frustrated all the time. Loss of energy.
Week 4 - felt slightly, slightly ‘lighter’ but not better.
Week 5 to present - the intrusive thoughts and worries feel further away, I feel more positive and have some ‘mental space’. Still experiencing compulsions but getting better for sure.

I have found a therapist for OCD and looking to start imminently, I just wanted to settle on the meds first. I am definitely not there yet but I feel hopeful and to be honest just glad to know I’m not going crazy (although potentially debatable at times). All in all despite this my mental fitness has been pretty good and without it I would really be struggling. Thank goodness for exercise, nature, self care, friends and family.

I will keep you updated because it really helps me to share and I hope that others going through OCD (or any mental health struggles) won’t feel alone. Please join me and #postyourpill to say no to medication stigma (todays the 1st).

Right, I’m off out for a good stomp with Rolo while the sun shines 🌞

Thank you for your support,

Alex 💙

P.s this is my personal experience and not medical advice, always see your doctor before starting any kind of treatment.
