I know it’s hard. Scary. 

Liam in his little blue hat. The gassing and pepper spraying of people who are still and complying. The deaths of Fouad, Nenko, Geraldo, Keith, and Renee. The murder of Alex, a nurse, who was disarmed and restrained before they shot him in the back for exercising his right to record and trying to protect a woman. Because he showed he was what most of us actually think a real man is. One who uses his power to help others, not harm. Who was working on scientific research to help prevent a very common infection in hospitals.

They want us to give up. They want us to hate and fear.

But if we have been listening to those who are Indigenous, Black, Brown, Queer, relatives of Japanese Americans who were interned, and those who have always experienced anti-immigrant hate; then we don’t need to say, “This isn’t who we are.”

Because, unfortunately, it is.

I just don’t think it *has to be* who we are. 

And I don’t think it’s too late to course correct. 

I believe we can do hard things. Together. 

Maybe for you that’s just amplifying. Maybe you can give to mutual aid funds or call our leaders all day every day to ask them to abolish 🧊. Maybe you can protest. No one has to do everything.

Minnesota is getting the most attention right now but everywhere that gang of thugs who cover their faces is terrorizing, our fellow citizens are teaching us that if we work together, we can do so much more than they think we can. And we must. No one is coming to save us but us.

I hope the many words in this post inspire you, make you feel less alone, give you hope, or at least some ideas for your next protest sign.
