Tip #2: Consider a single speed drivetrain!! 

Derailleurs have lots of pivot points and moving parts that can really take a beating from all the slush and salt. Plus, they usually require cables and housing which can rust and corrode quickly in winter riding. 

I like that I don't have to think about shifting at all - I can focus on staying upright and braking!
