House update! All of the windows in my cheap Victorian house have been replaced with white vinyl ones. Though I am happy that they keep the cold out, I just couldn’t bear to look at them anymore! So I painted them using liquid wood paint called retiqueliquidwood and this stuff has been a god send! Every quote that I got for custom wood windows of this size was over $2K per window and I have a lot of windows so that was out of the question. Luckily I have set decoration experience and know that anything can be made to look like something else. Why not make vinyl look like wood right? I studied the art of faux bois which is a painted woodgraining technique used in the 19th century. It was used to make cheap wood look exotic. All of the doors and casings in this house have the original painted woodgrain from 1900. I scoured the Internet for antique wood graining tools just so that I can make these windows look like they belong in the house. In the beginning I was quite concerned about how the paint would hold up but I’m happy to report that the adhesion is amazing and the windows work just the same. The trick is to move all the mechanisms after each coat of paint. I am so glad I did this. These windows were installed in 2001 per the sticker on the sash (I was in 1st grade.😂) but I am so happy how they came out! It definitely tricks the mind and makes the space appear more authentic than it did before. Stay tuned for my full bathroom reveal. It’s definitely an epic transformation.
