On the ninth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Shortbread Cookies!! This recipe has been in my family for generations. It came to America from Ireland with my great-grandmother Ba. I didn’t appreciate these enough when I was young—they’re buttery and not-too-sweet with just a hint of nutmeg (my ancestors used mace, but that’s hard to find where I live). But while a kid palate might not fully understand the magic of these, my adult taste buds go absolutely bonkers for these bad boys.
