1.30 Update

A winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions to the Carolinas and Georgia throughout Saturday, with snow totals reaching up to 1 foot in some areas and extreme cold warnings in effect.

New data suggests snow totals of 4 to 6 inches across the Western Carolinas, with locally heavier amounts up to 1 foot in western North Carolina. The eastern part of the upstate through metro Charlotte could see 6 to 8 inches, while areas from Raleigh to the Outer Banks may experience up to 1 foot of snow.

Places in the Outer Banks will have 60 mile an hour winds for several hours, bringing visibility down. They could have blizzard conditions for several hours in the Outer Banks.

The accumulating snow gets well into Georgia, well south into Georgia where warnings exist through Savannah, Tybee, Hilton Head, and Bryan County. Closer to home, areas from Pickens to Greenville to Spartanburg are forecasted to receive at least 4 inches of snow, with some locations possibly seeing 6 to 8 inches.

Winter storm warnings stretch from Asheville to Greenville, across Atlanta metro, back through Hilton Head Island, up through Charleston, and Myrtle Beach. There's winter weather advisories for Savannah, Richmond Hill all the way down to South Georgia, all of us are about to feel the extreme cold.

An extreme cold warning is in place until Sunday at 10 a.m., with feels-like temperatures expected to drop to single digits in some areas. As the storm progresses, snow will spread from the mountains into the upstate and North Georgia, covering every city in the Carolinas and much of Georgia.

Look at the winds along the Outer Banks. This wind right here would be close to 60 mph, maybe even more for gusts, and that's blowing around that snow with those blizzard-like conditions.

As we look closer into the upstate Western Carolina as that snow becomes more widespread as we go throughout the day on Saturday, good old fashioned snowstorm where it piles up hour by hour throughout the day, tapering off by about 6 o'clock. All said, Greenville 6 inches, Spartanburg 7 to 8 inches in Gaffney. Big time snow heading in with the big time cold to follow.
