Joffrey Ballet School’s NYC Pre-Professional Contemporary Summer Intensive is where rigorous training, artistic inquiry, and professional preparation intersect in the heart of New York City. As our flagship contemporary intensive for advanced dancers, this immersive program invites artists to fully commit to refining technique, expanding movement range, and deepening creative expression within a focused, professional studio environment.

Led by Artistic Director Bradley Shelver bradshelver , this program bridges the legacy of historical modern dance with the innovation and diversity of today’s contemporary movement. Dancers train in a wide range of contemporary styles, developing physical clarity, performance quality, and artistic confidence while engaging with the evolving language of the field.

Designed for dancers ages 14 to 25, this intensive delivers a holistic training experience that supports both technical growth and long-term sustainability. Daily classes are complemented by yoga, Pilates, and strength conditioning to promote injury prevention, physical readiness, and overall well-being. The program also offers valuable insight into the expectations of today’s contemporary landscape and pathways from pre-professional training into academic programs and professional company work.
