Celebrating Black Creatives in Art and Culture: November 11-12, 2025

Govinda Gallery founder Chris Murray and Chef Jenn Crovato of Georgetown’s 1310 Kitchen & Bar are teaming up again, but this time with the addition of a special friend and guest - celebrity sports anchor and author, Jayne Kennedy. Not just one night, but for two consecutive nights - Kennedy, Murray, and Crovato are celebrating Black creative voices and Black female experiences.​
 
Tuesday, November 11 | 6-9PM | The fourth event in the signature Govinda Gallery Live series presents Black is Beautiful: JET Beauties of the Week (powerHouse Books)— featuring a behind-the-scenes look of American vocalist of the 5th Dimension, Lamonte McLemore’s iconic photographs from JET Magazine spanning four decades. Govinda Gallery founder and the book’s editor, Murray, hosts the evening, and is joined by Kennedy—award-winning actress, trailblazing sports broadcaster, and McLemore’s close friend with portraits of her in the book—sharing intimate stories from their collaboration. Guests will enjoy a photography presentation, storytelling, and a family-style feast from Chef Crovato. TICKETS: $85++ (beverages and books additional). Books available for signing.​
 
Wednesday, November 12 | 5:30-7:30PM - Extended Special Happy Hour | Jayne Kennedy hosts an intimate Meet and Greet + Book Signing for her newly released memoir, Plain Jayne. Kennedy—the first Black woman to win Miss Ohio USA and Emmy Award-winning host of CBS’s The NFL Today—shares her breathtaking story of endurance, survival, and achievement. Inducted into the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, Kennedy is a true pioneer. TICKETS: $29++ (includes one book). Special Extended Happy Hour menu available to attendees (food/beverage not included in ticket price).
