But the Heronswood story didn’t end there. In fact, it took a powerful and hopeful turn. ⁠

In 2013, the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe portgamblesklallams purchased the land, committing to restore both the gardens and their ancestral homelands. ⁠

In the January/February issue of "American Gardener", Erica Brown Grivas ebgrivas shares how the Tribe has not only revived the old garden but also brought new life through fresh designs, community events, and a deep reconnection to place. ⁠

This is more than a garden comeback story — it's about stewardship, cultural restoration, and indigenous lands returning to indigenous care. The evolving Heronswood honors its past while blooming into a vibrant, living future.⁠
