Part 1

Yes you can (and should) hire a lawyer once you’ve committed to this Industry but while you’re getting your footing, It Is possible to understand, redline and agree to terms on your own- just make sure you Identify and understand these concepts (the last one is usually overlooked but SO important...  you’ll see why).

 📝 Scope of Work: understand  the type, quantity, format, and any additional deliverables

 📝 Timeline and Deadlines: define project schedule (if any/how many revisions), when are drafts due and when Is the final product to be delivered/ posted

 📝 Compensation and Payment Terms: consider if you need to purchase any props or the product and outline upfront fees, rate, usage & payment method/timeline

📝  Intellectual Property: clarify content ownership and licensing agreements (aka usage)

  📝Confidentiality: understand If you are bound by an NDA and what you can/can not share publicly (especially Important for big name, corporate brands and those bigger partnerships)

 📝 Termination Clause: what are you and the brand bound to If the partnership falls through, *Personal Experience Pro Tip- MAKE SURE THIS IS INCLUDED, I had a 2-part Reel offer and the brand cancelled the 2nd reel and I went back and re-read the contract and realized It was within my legal rights to receive the full amount!

Remember, these are just tips and tricks but not a replacement for legal counsel- no one can guide you as well as a licensed, practicing legal pro! (I realize the hypocrisy as I have yet to hire my own, but I plan to by the end of the year)!
