Put your hands👏 together for Gabriela Vander Wegen, @gabby_vandy, #IA major in SoHE for #NationalInternDay! 🎉
Gabby is an Operations Intern at Illumina, an international biotech company. She is learning about design🎨 and project management, and is working on3️⃣awesome projects this summer. One project included looking at the company's waste data and making a spreadsheet to calculate the amount of waste per square foot each space makes, or would make in the future. Another project involves creating a comprehensive presentation📉 detailing the design process to have as an employee resource. 

Gabby mentioned that,  "I am very much enjoying my internship and I love❤️ getting to have a new experience. This job is unlike anything else I have experienced, as it is my first office job and I am not focusing strictly on the creative design process as we do in school."

Gabby obtained her internship from an Illumina recruiter reaching out to her on LinkedIn, and then she applied! She went through 3 separate interviews before they offered her the position. 🙌

Gabby's advice is, "to always keep your LinkedIn updated and check it frequently! You never know if someone will reach out to you or if you'll see a job posting that calls to you. Another piece of advice would be to just👍 go for it. It doesn't hurt to apply. This intern position actually was asking originally for engineers, but I decided to apply anyways and throughout the interview process they told me they were actually happy that I wasn't an engineer and had different experiences."
