Kayaking from Argo Park Livery to Gallup Park was one of our favorite mornings in Ann Arbor. With that said, it was actually MY favorite activity of the whole summer! I never knew this existed when I was a student at the University of Michigan in the late 90s. 

The 3.7 mile journey down the Huron River was just stunning. This wonderful experience allowed me to see my beloved Ann Arbor in an entirely new way (literally and figuratively).

From our kayaks (my nine year old son and I had a double, my 11 year old son and husband had a double, and our 15 year-old daughter had a solo) we saw all kinds of birds, fish, and even turtles.

The kayaking is at a beginner level. You start by going down a series of nine natural cascades (fun little slides) and then the river opens up with a mild current taking you from one park to the other. While some say you could do this trip in an hour and a half, it was so beautiful and serene we decided to put our paddles down, take our time, and simply let the river do all the work.

I highly recommend this annarborparks activity available April - October. It would make the perfect day on your own, with your friends or family, and honestly - it would make an amazing date!

We got a little wet and were happy to be in bathing suit bottoms. Since there was a little chill in the air too we went for long sleeves on top. It was the perfect combination.

Once we arrived at Gallup Park we hung out for a bit then hopped on the included shuttle to return to our car. 

The whole morning was just perfect. Rentals were easy and both park have bathrooms.
