REEL HISTORY: Have you heard of Surkh Kotal? A 2nd-century Zoroastrian fire-temple site in northern Afghanistan, built under the Kushan emperor Kanishka. Its inscriptions record royal patronage, ritual administration, even complaints about water supply, a rare archaeological proof that Zoroastrianism here was institutional, funded, and tied to state power. One of the few such sites to survive excavation, while many others were destroyed or built over in later centuries.
