Stranger Things: The First Shadow brings Hawkins, Indiana to the Broadway stage in a way no one could have imagined. Set in 1959, long before the Netflix series begins, the story follows familiar characters such as Jim Hopper and Joyce Maldonado in their teenage years, as well as introducing Henry Creel before he becomes the villain we know as Vecna. It’s a prequel that builds new layers of mystery and heart while tying directly into the events of the beloved series.

I recently attended Stranger Things: The First Shadow on Broadway, and it exceeded every expectation. The production is visually breathtaking, often blurring the line between stagecraft and cinema. At times it feels as though you’re watching a film projected in ultra-high definition, only to be reminded it’s live theater when the actors step off the stage and into the audience.
