Sam Claflin is opening up about his insecurities in a way that feels painfully real.

On Fearne Cotton’s ‘Happy Place’ podcast, the actor spoke about living with body dysmorphia and how exposed he felt early on in his career. He recalled being told just a week before filming that he’d need to do a topless scene (one that wasn’t even in the script) and immediately panicking about his body.

Those insecurities started long before the cameras. Claflin said he hit puberty late and grew up feeling like he wasn’t attractive, strong enough, or built the way he was “supposed” to be.

One memory that still sticks with him is not being able to do a pull-up in gym class, a moment he described as leaving him “incredibly embarrassed.”

And fame didn’t magically fix any of it. He admitted he still struggles watching himself on screen, saying he’s “incredibly insecure,” and that after screenings his honest reaction is often, “I hated it. It’s my face I don’t like.”
