How many towns do you know of, that require corporations to set aside cooperative farm land before they're given permits to build their big box store? Well that's just what Visit San Luis Obispo did when Target wanted to build within their city limits. And that's how City Farm SLO with their 19 acres came to be! It's a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to empower the next generation to live healthier, more prosperous lives through sustainable agriculture and farm-based education. They allowed my colleagues and I to participate in harvest the day we visited and I was able to pick Salanova lettuce. City Farm produce makes its way into the town through a variety of programs. It felt amazing to know that what I was helping pick was going to nourish residents and visitors alike, contributing to a healthy community where good food is prioritized and grown in a regenerative way. I encourage you to look for the URL in the comments to learn more about City Farm. Thank you, Kate DiTrani for being our *outstanding* guide and mentor for the day! #ShareSLO
