In 1980, the year Ronald Reagan took office and the Rubik's Cube hit the scene, a quirky German deli and restaurant named Mr. Dunderbak's opened in Jacksonville's Regency Square Mall. Founded by Mary and Lew Zarka, this little slice of Deutschland offered a taste of Europe with its German newspapers, pickles, pretzels, imported beverages, and delicious menu.

After closing its franchise in the 1990s, the Zarkas re-opened as European Street Restaurant and Gourmet. Today, European Street Cafe (or "E. Street") remains a beloved institution in Northeast Florida, celebrating its 44th anniversary this year.

Join us in celebrating #904Day with a pint or cookie at European Street Cafe! Let's raise a glass to 44 years of delicious food, friendly service, and community spirit.
