Nate Ament scored 22 points, and Jaylen Carey provided a spark off the bench with 13 as Tennessee earned a 77-69 win over Auburn on Saturday night.

Tennessee set the tone early, jumping out to a 13-4 lead behind strong starts from Ament and Carey. The Volunteers controlled the opening half on both ends and took a 41-31 advantage into the break, with Ament and Carey each scoring 11 points before halftime.

Auburn responded quickly to begin the second half. Sebastian Williams-Adams and Kevin Overton each converted three-point plays in the opening two minutes to trim the margin to 43-37. The Tigers continued to push, as Keyshawn Hall knocked down a three-pointer and Elyjah Freeman followed with a dunk to cut Tennessee’s lead to 53-49 with just over 11 minutes remaining.

The Volunteers answered with a timely stretch. Free throws from Ament, followed by baskets from J.P. Estrella and Bishop Boswell, sparked a run that pushed the lead back to 59-49 with nine minutes to play. Auburn made another push when freshman Filip Jovic turned an offensive rebound into a three-point play to make it 59-56, but Tennessee responded again.

Ja’Kobi Gillespie scored the final four points of a 6-0 Tennessee run, allowing the Volunteers to reestablish a two-possession cushion and hold it to the finish.

Ament added eight rebounds and went 12-for-15 at the free-throw line, while Gillespie finished with 11 points and five assists. DeWayne Brown II chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds for Tennessee (15-6, 5-3 SEC).

Hall led Auburn (14-8, 5-4) with 21 points, while Tahaad Pettiford added 11 points and seven assists as the Tigers saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.
