🌍 Youth Focal Point Coordination Meeting

Last week, WMO convened its first Youth Focal Point Coordination Meeting in Tokyo, hosted with the generous support of the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), marking a key milestone in the implementation of the WMO Youth Action Plan 2025–2027.

Following the adoption of the Youth Action Plan at the extraordinary session of the World Meteorological Congress (Cg-Ext (2025)), the meeting brought together regional Youth Focal Points alongside Secretariat colleagues to translate the Plan’s commitments into coordinated action.

Over four days of strategic discussions, co-design sessions, and Member-led reflections, participants worked together to establish the foundations of the WMO Youth Network governance, develop an implementation roadmap for the Youth Action Plan, and strengthen coordination on capacity development, communications, partnerships, and monitoring and reporting.

The meeting enabled a coordinated, Member-led approach to youth engagement across WMO, grounded in regional realities and focused on practical outcomes that Youth Focal Points can take forward in their respective contexts.

As climate risks continue to rise and scientific and technological advances, empowering young professionals is essential to WMO’s long term mission.
