Nitrogen has her game face ON 😈

The Grade I-winning daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, crowned the Eclipse Award-winning champion 3-year-old filly of 2025, will make her 4-year-old debut in Saturday’s GIII Bayakoa Stakes at Oaklawn Park. 

Though connections originally planned to point her to the March 7 GII Azeri Stakes to kick off the season, Nitrogen showed them all she was ready to get back to work after three-and-a-half weeks off. 

“Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse called me and he said, ‘I know the game plan was to give her time off. She doesn’t want it. She wants to train and is sound and is doing well.’ He said that his concern was that if he didn’t train her, mentally, she might get a little sour on us and that’s not what you want to do, especially with a filly.

“So we put her back in light training because she didn’t lose a lot of fitness and she picked it up very quickly,” said Jon Green of D. J. Stable.

As for next steps, Green added that the plan is to run in the Azeri, as well. Then, onto the April 11 GII Apple Blossom Handicap. 

Last time out, Nitrogen finished second in the Nov. 1 GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Del Mar.
