Fashion isn’t just about clothing. The 2026 Vilcek Prizes in Fashion & Culture honor immigrant professionals in the United States who preserve fashion history and expand its documentation through photography, museum exhibitions, research, and education. As part of its mission to uplift immigrants in the arts and sciences, the vilcekfoundation awarded $250,000 to honor five individuals who shape fashion behind the scenes, documenting culture, history, and identity through their work.

🏛️Tanya Meléndez-Escalante (tanya.meledez.fashion, b. Mexico) received the $100,000 Vilcek Prize in Fashion & Culture. An arts administrator and curator at The Museum at FIT, Meléndez-Escalante creates exhibitions and educational programs that reveal the often-overlooked diversity of Latin American fashion through collaboration and inclusivity.

The $50,000 Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Fashion & Culture has been awarded to four recipients:

📸 Diego Bendezu (diegobendezu, b. Peru), a photographer who creates visual imagery centering Latin American and immigrant narratives.

🎞️ Jalan & Jibril Durimel (durimel, b. France) use fashion photography to explore fictitious storytelling and inspire audiences to be curious about other people, culture, and clothing.

📚 Natalie Nudell (natalien__, b. Canada to European and Middle Eastern parents) is a fashion historian whose development of the Fashion Calendar Research Database helps illuminate how underrepresented communities are integral to the US fashion industry.

Together, these honorees highlight how immigrant voices shape fashion and culture itself.
