The North Atlantic Right Whale Consortium recently released an updated population estimate for the critically endangered whales showing a slight increase with an estimated 384 whales, based on 2024 data, compared to 376 estimated for 2023. This is positive news with a small upward trend in recent years, but the number of calves born each year still remains low, with only 11 calves born last season. As we approach the start of a new calving season, right whales continue to face threats from entanglements and vessel strikes.

Join us for Echoes of the Ocean with guest speakers Dr. Michael Moore and Melanie White on Tuesday, Nov. 4 and learn how your everyday choices can impact the survival of these whales and what researchers are doing to support conservation efforts.
