Did you know Haitians fought for American independence? 🇭🇹🇺🇸

On October 9, 1779, over 500 free men of color from Haiti, part of the Chasseurs Volontaires de Saint-Domingue, fought alongside American forces at the Siege of Savannah against the British.

In this artwork, a young drummer named Henri Christophe would later become a key leader in the Haitian Revolution and eventually King of Haiti. ✨🎨

These artworks are part of NMOA’s Liberty & Legacy  project commemorating America’s 250th in collaboration with RevolutionNJ.
