Artist Bradley Phillips named it ‘The Empire City,’ in his 1987 oil painting inspired by a motor trip along the Atlantic seaboard. The painting depicts an imaginative skyline, a conflation of the 3 cities. 

Phillips also calls attention to the juxtaposition of modern rising skylines and their impact on vibrant, historic neighborhoods. The painting was gifted to Boston Athenaeum in 1990.🎨 #mybostonuncovered #mysecretnyc #mysecretphiladelphia #culture
