The Dutch government officially handed over a looted artefact to the Egyptian government in a ceremony in the Hague Thursday. The sculpture, depicting a senior official from the reign of Pharaoh Thutmose III (1479–1425 BC), surfaced at an art fair in 2022. ⁣

Following an investigation by Dutch police, it was found to have been taken illegally from Luxor in Egypt. "This restitution confirms a sense of dignity to the nation of Egypt. It empowers Egypt to tell her own history’’ said Egyptian ambassador to the Netherlands Emad M Hanna.⁣
