It survived the journey from space… but it didn’t get through customs. Customs officers in Russia’s St Petersburg prevented a 2.5-ton meteorite fragment from being exported from Russia to the UK. It was discovered during the scanning of a sea container. Although the fragment had been declared as a sculpture for landscape design, an expert examination revealed that it was a large fragment of the Aleitei iron meteorite – valued at around $4.2m according to the Federal Customs Service. #space #smuggling #russia #uk #meteorite
