9 ACTUALLY helpful tips when flying business class with toddlers and little kids 👇

1. Research the inside of the cabin before your flight: Choose our seats wisely as this can make or break a trip. We choose to put both our kids in the middle and have parents across the aisle. This strategy worked because it was easier to reach across the aisle instead of over the divider when they needed help. 

2. Plan for pressure pain during takeoff and landing: Ear pain is one of the biggest triggers. Offer a drink, pouch, pacifier, or chewy snack as the plane ascends and descends to encourage swallowing BUT put all these items next to them since you won’t be able to get up and hand them to them during this time. 

3. Don’t rely on inflight meals for kids: 
Timing is unpredictable so bring at least one “safe food” per child so hunger doesn’t turn into a full-cabin performance.

  4. Use space to your advantage—but set boundaries: Business class gives room to move, but kids still need rules. Let them stand or stretch in their area, not wander aisles. 

5. All bags will need to be placed in overhead bins during takeoff and landing so pull out necessary things beforehand.

6. Assume seat controls will be a toy: Kids love buttons. Lock the controls if possible, or explain early what’s “allowed” to touch so you’re not repeatedly popping upright during nap time.

7. Expect sleep regressions—even with lie-flat seats: New environments, lighting, and noise can throw kids off. One bad flight doesn’t mean business class “doesn’t work”—it’s still usually easier than economy.

8. Seat belts may be different: if your kids are used to the seat belts in economy, they may be surprised to find different types. Research this ahead of time to know which type to expect.

9. Let go of “perfect behavior” expectations: Business class doesn’t require silent children (obviously we all prefer if they are quiet during the night sleep) —it requires reasonable parenting. Kids are allowed to exist, talk, and move.
