Nebraska got back on track over the weekend and now faces another major test.

The seventh-ranked Huskers return home Tuesday night to host No. 13 Purdue in a Top-15 Big Ten matchup at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

“It’s an old, experienced group that’s played together for a long time, and Matt Painter is as good as anybody in this business,” Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg said Monday. “They absolutely handed it to us last year — embarrassed us on their home court — and we’re going to have to be on point. It’s very important we get off to a good start.”

Nebraska (21-2, 10-2 Big Ten) snapped a two-game skid Saturday with an 80-68 road win at Rutgers. Senior forward Rienk Mast led the way with 25 points and eight rebounds, helping the Huskers pull away late in the first half and control the game down the stretch. Four Nebraska players scored in double figures.

The win pushed Nebraska up two spots in this week’s AP poll, from No. 9 to No. 7, marking the Huskers’ sixth consecutive week in the Top 10 — the longest stretch in program history.

Now they return home for a two-game homestand beginning with Purdue (19-4, 9-3), which is coming off a 68-64 win over Oregon. Fletcher Loyer scored 18 points for the Boilermakers, hitting a go-ahead 3-pointer with 51 seconds left before sealing the game at the free-throw line.

Tuesday’s game will be the third ranked-on-ranked matchup at Pinnacle Bank Arena this season, following visits from Michigan State and Illinois. Nebraska is 12-1 at home this year.

A key figure in those matchups has been senior guard Sam Hoiberg, who has 22 assists without a turnover in four games against ranked opponents this season, while averaging 1.5 steals per game.

“They run so many different things and they upgrade every year with what they do,” Hoiberg said of Purdue. “It’s going to be a game where you have to keep adapting. The experience is something you can lean back on, but it’s going to continue to be tough.”

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on FS1 and played before a sold-out crowd.
