History in the Syracuse mayoral race, a throwback to Devin Grant heroics in SU football’s win over Miami last year and our opinion columnist’s thoughts on Día De Los Muertos feature in The Daily Orange’s 11th regular print issue of the year.

News: “Her background of being a Syracuse student has prompted her to care so deeply about other students that are currently here.” Supporters say the mayor-elect’s SU background shaped her passionate nature and approach to public service. Design by @ilana.zahavy.

Election Day: On Nov. 4, Syracuse voters made history by electing Sharon Owens, who declared victory at her watch party. At their event, Thomas Babilon and other Republicans watched as results pointed to a county-wide blue wave. Design by @ilana.zahavy.

Culture: For many Syracuse athletes, a fresh cut before game day means a visit to Alex Gonzalez. Players come for clean fades but stay for conversation. His roster of clients includes Yasin Willis, LeQuint Allen Jr. and Rickie Collins. Design by @addieguan.

Opinion: Día de Los Muertos is the annual Mexican celebration for the dead, honoring legacies of deceased family. Our columnist reminds students the importance of this remembrance, arguing the tradition nurtures community. Design by @ilana.zahavy.

@dailyorangesports: Last season, Devin Grant delivered a game-changing defensive touchdown against then-No. 8 Miami. His big-play style could be crucial for SU to break its five-game losing streak. Design by Lily Wilkin.
