Lawmakers expected that Ghislaine Maxwell would refuse to answer questions in a closed-door appearance before Congress - and she did exactly that.

Appearing via video link from prison, the convicted associate of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, invoked the Fifth Amendment - the constitutional right to not give evidence that may self-incriminate.

Following the hearing, House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer said it was "disappointing" that Maxwell would not cooperate, calling her a "very bad person" who does not deserve clemency.
