## Caption

Three Alabama prisoners featured in an Oscar-nominated documentary are now suing, claiming their First Amendment rights were violated after being suddenly transferred to isolation cells.

Melvin Ray, Robert Earl Council, and Ricardo “Raoul” Poole were featured in “The Alabama Solution,” a documentary that exposed terrible conditions inside Alabama prisons.

The inmates claim they've been completely cut off, unable to make phone calls, see other prisoners, or access their legal materials. Ray had his religious beard and locs forcibly cut despite his objections.

The Alabama Department of Corrections claims these transfers were based on “intelligence that they are engaged in activity that is detrimental to safety and security.“
