## Caption

For the 10-year commemoration of her high school’s shooting, Meg (Alyssa Marvin), whose mother was among those killed, stages a musical reenactment of the events, sparking controversy and growing administrative disarray as opening night approaches. Initially stating desires to provide “catharsis” to a community still scarred, Meg quickly realizes the production serves as her own mechanism to cope with the death of her mother.

“This being told through Meg’s eyes — through the kids — was the most original, important, stunning view to get the point across,” said executive producer Patrick Wilson when asked what compelled him to join the “Run Amok” team. “The reason I feel kind of stuck talking is because I don’t want to hear adults talk anymore.”

But the trouble is that an adult wrote the screenplay and directed the actors. Another adult edited the final product, and a whole slew of adults produced it. The story being told from a child’s perspective provides little to nothing for the assertion that children’s voices aren’t being heard. The voices we hear in “Run Amok” don’t belong to the kids playing the students, they belong to the adults steering the ship — the children are merely their messengers.
