#RUMOR: Matt Rhule is being considered a coaching replacement at Penn State. 

Now let’s start things off by saying I do not think Coach Rhule leaves. Lots of people speculating and lots of people assuming the worst. I just don’t think it makes any logical sense for him to leave. 

The facts: Yes, Coach Rhule went to Penn State as a player, and his former AD from Temple is currently the AD at Penn State. But Rhule has something great going on here his wife owns a business here in Lincoln and his son attends UNL and his daughters are growing up in Lincoln. Rhule has said he loves it here and it’s not just about football either. 

The money: Rhule is getting paid roughly the same amount as James Franklin was. Penn State just paid Franklins buyout which was $50 million dollars. If Penn State were to hire Rhule they would have to pay his buyout as well which is around $50 million as well. (Although if Penn State wants someone good they’re gonna have to pay someone a big buyout). I also think Rhule could be using this as leverage to get an extension and/or more money. 

The Rebuilder: Coach Rhule rebuilds programs that are down and need a culture reset. Whether Penn State really needs a culture reset or not is up for debate. Penn State has a team that is talented enough to play anybody in the country and that’s a fact. I think Penn State needs a coach that can get the guys playing well and max out their potential. Someone like Cignetti is an example of that.

Final Thoughts: Now we’re still in the middle of the season and Rhule said he’s focused on this team and this week’s game. So as Husker fans let’s worry about what we can control and what we love which is Husker football. So just watch the team play and cheer them on. Coach Rhule isn’t going anywhere.
